Despite the long-winded debate, religious debate plays a secondary role in Islamic public discourse regarding domestic violence. The supremacy of men, and the right to use violence against women, predate religious law, or even worse, coopt religious law. Defeating domestic violence is solely dependent on the decisive decision to eradicate violence from society and the family.
